Mary Cropenbaker is dedicated to making sustainability more accessible for businesses and organizations. As the Assistant Solid Waste Manager at Hamilton County ReSource, she helps businesses, schools, and other organizations implement waste reduction strategies, move toward zero-waste goals, and expand organics recycling efforts.

In 2019, Mary envisioned a free sustainability certification to encourage businesses in Hamilton County to adopt greener practices. That vision became a reality in 2020 with the launch of the 513 Green Certification. Since then, the program has grown beyond businesses to include restaurants, retail establishments, and schools, with nearly 50 organizations earning certification.

Mary brings a strong background in environmental science and sustainable business, holding an M.B.A. in Sustainable Business from Western Kentucky University, a Master of Environmental Science from Miami University, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Kentucky. She has also worked as a contractor for the Environmental Protection Agency and as a consultant in energy and stormwater management.
