CIVIC GARDEN CENTER

The Civic Garden Center is a regionally recognized nonprofit model that has been teaching people how to grow food and care for the environment since 1942. Founded during the Victory Gardens movement and situated on the former estate of philanthropist Cornelius J. Hauck, they are Cincinnati’s go-to resource for all things gardening, sustainability and horticulture.

Why they're 513 Green?

The Civic Garden Center supports over 50 community gardens across Cincinnati, providing resources, education, and assistance to help residents grow their own food sustainably. A key feature of the Civic Garden Center is the Green Learning Station, an innovative facility demonstrating sustainable urban practices such as rainwater harvesting, renewable energy, composting, and native plant landscaping. This station serves as an educational hub for students, professionals, and the general public.

The Civic Garden Center also advocates for the creation of pollinator gardens using native plants to support local biodiversity and provide habitats for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Moreover, it encourages the public to learn different methods of backyard composting and even offers a public, compost drop-off program through Compost Now for those who aren’t able to compost in their own backyards.
