LA SOUPE
La Soupe is a chef-led food rescue organization that bridges the gap between food waste and food insecurity. Following the EPA Food Recovery Hierarchy framework, La Soupe is committed to rescuing food before it hits the landfill, transforming it into healthy, chef-curated meals, and sharing it with those most in need in our community.

Why they're 513 Green?
La Soupe is committed to sustainable practices, keeping food waste out of landfills, and feeding the local community through a network of community partners. On average, they rescue 25,000 pounds of surplus food from grocery stores, farms, and restaurants each week and transform it into nutritious meals. Anything not fit for human consumption is donated to local animal farms or composted. By diverting food that would otherwise go to waste, La Soupe significantly reduces its environmental impact. In the past year, 2,070 metric tons of carbon were avoided, and 117 million gallons of water were saved thanks to their operations. Refurbished cooking equipment and parts are used in the kitchen and to make repairs, and LED lighting is used throughout the building. They educate the public by teaching students and adults the impact of waste on our environment, how to cook with food on hand, and the power of sharing with others.
